BEHIND THE SCENES WITH JUSTIN LAUKAT, COMPOSER, MUSICIAN
Justin Laukat is a composer, arranger, and multi-woodwind performer whose music spans concert, chamber, jazz, and commercial idioms, with a particular focus on writing for winds and mixed ensembles. His works have been premiered and performed by professional, academic, and military ensembles across the United States, including U.S. Navy bands, university ensembles, and chamber groups. Laukat’s compositional output reflects his background as an active performer on clarinet, saxophone, and piano, often incorporating idiomatic writing, strong rhythmic drive, and an interest in blending stylistic traditions. His music has been featured in settings ranging from formal concert halls to public outreach and multimedia performances, including original underscoring for large-scale ceremonial productions. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Composition at the University of Rhode Island, where he studies with Eliane Aberdam. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Woodwind Performance (clarinet) from Brigham Young University. Laukat’s professional experience includes extensive work as a staff arranger and performer with U.S. Navy bands, and his music has been recognized through awards, commissions, and repeat collaborations.
His Composition Teachers include Dr. Eliane Aberdam and Dr. Haneef Nelson.
